Fourteen members of Endeavour’s racing squad travelled to Leichhardt Rowing Club for the Iron Cove Masters regatta. This was new water for ten of the squad, the first time they had raced on such an open course. Iron Cove was very well behaved with relatively small ripples that calmed down as the regatta progressed and a minor swell that complicated boat balance but did not interfere with the racing. It could have been a lot worse.

15 Endeavour crews started for 2 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds. Our first medals were earned in Mens D Quad by the crew of Reg Vaughan, Dave Percival and Owen Redhead composite with Newcastle’s Japanese rower Osamu Mitarai (Marc). They came in 2.5 seconds ahead of Drummoyne with our second MDQx in third place. Our second win went to Al Atkins rowing with the Ancient Mariners in MF-MQx. Al’s “H” crew was the oldest in the race with an average age between 80 and 83.

Winning crews:
Mens Masters D Quad: Reg Vaughan, Osamu Mitarai (Newcastle), Dave Percival, Owen Redhead.
Mens Masters F-M Quad: Al Atkins + Ancient mariners.

Second places:
Mens Masters C Quad: Peter Bowman, Ben Leacey, Matt Patton, Mick Shepherd.
Mixed Masters Quad: Katrina Whiteley, Owen Redhead, Dave Percival, Diana Trescott.
